Sat Swiss tournaments.

Minor changes ahead. See below.

Sat Swiss 75
This has been our most popular event. Three rounds of Swiss G/75;d5 with round times at 1pm, 3:30pm and 6pm. No breaks. Rounds start back to back. Each round is approximately 2.5 hours plus or minus some due to delay. Almost everyone finishes before 9pm. Register via text message (i.e. Full Name, USCF ID#12345678, register for event on mm/dd/yy) to 281-698-0068 no later than 12:30pm the day of. The earlier the better but no earlier than Wednesday of that week. If you get an "ok" you're good to go. Please give us time to respond to texts. For more details please see the event calendar link above. If you need a bye for a round, please send that in the text message as well! EF $18 plus $7 for non-members of The Chess Refinery. A half point bye must be requested before round 2.
Sat Swiss 60 (360+minutes)
We'll likely hold these once a month for now on the first Sat of each month, possibly twice a month in the future depending on demand (always double check event calendar for scheduling changes). We asked. You answered. Some of ya'll want shorter time controls that start earlier in the day. So here goes. Three rounds of Swiss G/60;d5 with round times at 12:15pm, 2:15pm and 4:15pm. No breaks. Rounds start back to back. Each round is approximately 2 hours plus or minus due to delay. Register via text message (i.e. Full Name, USCF ID#12345678, register for event on mm/dd/yy) to 281-698-0068 no later than 11:30am the day of. The earlier the better but no earlier than Wed of that week. If you get an "ok" you're good to go. Please give us time to respond to texts. For more details please see the event calendar. EF $15 plus $7 for non-members of the Chess Refinery. A half point bye must be requested before round 2.
General Overview
Our Saturday tournaments usually draw in players who are USCF rated 1200/1300 and up. As such, this is not a restriction, just an informative guideline on the competition level of these events. Please always text us if you will be running late or have had a change of plans and are not attending. It is important that you know if you've texted us to register, you are expected to show up and you will be paired to play. "No shows" who do not notify us prior to round time that they cannot make it will not be welcome in the future.

Important Details
  • You may not choose to "play up" to a higher section.
  • The cutoff for sections is determined by the tournament director only. It is the TD's judgment call to make.
  • Pairings and section placement is based on your supplement rating as published by the USCF. We do not use live current ratings. There are very few exceptions, i.e. provisional or unrated or international FIDE rated players, etc.
  • Accelerated pairings may be used. See rule 28R in the USCF Official Rules of Chess 7th edition.

You must be a current USCF member to play in these rated events.
