Who Can Play? Kids in grades K-12, unrated or rated under 1300 USCF
Spots Available 92*
Format 5 round Swiss
Time Control G/25;d5
Entry Fee Early EF $28 by 10pm cst Tuesday, 4/4/2023
afterwards, late registration EF $35
Prizes Trophies only - no cash prizes. Top performers awarded. Each section will have 5 place prizes guaranteed.
Sections 3 Sections, each section limited to 25-30 players each, placement in section dependent on the ratings of registered players and TD discretion
Rating Limit Details Parents, your child will be placed in a section at the tournament director's discretion. Placement will be based on either OTB or online USCF RATED tournament history and/or current supplement rating.
Rating Info  USCF OTB quick and regular rated. This is the rating that matters!
Section Placement Details Placement in a section is generally based on supplement ratings, not LIVE ratings. We do NOT individually review everyone's most recent tournament results for placement. Special requests to play in a higher section based on online chess.com ratings or otherwise unofficial USCF ratings will not be taken into consideration. Special placement may take place in the case of unrated or provisional players.
Round Times**

9:15am, 10:25am, 11:35am, 1:15pm, 2:15pm

**round times are approximate - each round will be 'back to back' and may start earlier or later than the stated round times. A brief lunch break is worked into the schedule -  leave after you finish the third round and be back by 1:15pm to start round 4. 

Time to Show Up No check-in. Be seated at boards by 9am for announcements. Pairings will be posted in paper on-site and online the morning of the tournament.
Byes Let the TD know in advance if you need to miss a round or if you can't make it to the tournament at all.
What to Bring Digital chess clock & writing instrument for doing notation. If you don't bring a clock, it's okay. Scholastic players may start without a clock & we will add one as needed. Outerwear in case room is too cold for your child. We will be supplying boards & pieces for the scholastic players only.

Parking Guidelines Westin Garage Self-parking is $10 and is the preferred method. Access from the mall parking lot is via the skywalk near cheesecake factory/maggiano's and is a short 5 min walk from mall to hotel). The skybridge may not be open early AM hours, in that case, just go across Gessner Rd along the crosswalk.

Tiebreaks Computer tiebreaks used to determine trophy distribution. (see MSCO in USCF rulebook). See tiebreak information here (page 114)
Food & Beverage No outside food & beverage allowed within the hotel confines other than that which is purchased within the hotel. If you go to the mall food court, please consume all food/beverage at the food court. Water will be provided within the tournament venue to players. No eating is allowed inside the tournament venue.

Refund Policy

Refunds/Withdrawals must be requested by 5pm CST on Thursday April 6th 2023 to receive a 70% refund.
All changes/requests will incur additional transaction fees due to processing charges.
