Simul & Lecture Overview

This is a great opportunity to play against Houston's 3 Grandmasters in one sitting! The GMs (Alejano, Castillo and Fernandez) will alternate turns at your board for this unique Simultaneous Exhibition. After the games are finished each GM will select 1 game/position from the simul games for instructional analysis for a total of 3 reviews. Bystanders are welcome for a nominal admission fee to watch the simul and attend the lecture.
Simul Participants will play with the black pieces. Expect an allotment of 45 minutes on your clock. The GMs will be allowed 1 hour or as needed due to the logistics of alternating turns, total number of boards, etc. Players, each board will have a marker/sign indicating which GMs turn it is. After you make your move, hit your clock and please assist the GMs in utilizing the turn markers as needed. Event starts at 12 noon. Please check-in at 1145am. We have the Grand Hall reserved from 12 noon to 6pm. However, we do not intend to take up the entire six hours, although that remains a possibility.

Admission Tickets

Cost for Simul Participants is $35 per player.
Cost for Bystanders to watch the simul and attend the lecture is $12 per attendee.
Rice Students discounted admission as simul participant is $25 per player. Rice Student bystanders attend for free.***
*** Rice students, please contact us directly via text to 281.698.0068. Payment will likely be made/collected through the Rice Chess Club. We are still working out the details on this. Proof of membership/student status will be required upon check in to the event.

If you are a parent who is bringing their child as a participant or bystander, you will not be required to pay an admission cost - but you must remain seated away from the main event in designated area(s) for parents/guardians. Otherwise you will need to pay the full bystander admission cost if you want to be able to view the games.
